The Medicare program requires a claim to have a certain
dollar value that exceeds the Medicare amount in controversy to allow the
provider or the beneficiary to appeal a claim.
The amount in controversy threshold for calendar year 2014 will be $140
to appeal Medicare claims in all appeal levels up to and including Administrative
Law Judge Hearing. The amount in
controversy threshold for calendar year 2014 to take an appeal beyond
Administrative Law Judge Hearing to Federal District Court will be $1,430.
