CMS Issues Final Hospice Payment Rules for FY 2015
On Monday August 4th CMS issued the Final Rule for Hospice payments for fiscal year 2015.  The final rule increases hospice payments by 1.4% or $230 million.  The rule provides an update on hospice payment reform analysis.  It provides potential definitions of "Terminal Illness" and "Related Conditions".  It provides the information on potential processes and appeals for Part D payment for drugs while the patients are under a hospice election.  It specifies timeframes for filing the notice of election and notice of termination/revocation of hospice benefits.  It will add penalties to late filing of election notices and provide four circumstances for an exception to the penalty.  It will require hospices to complete their hospice aggregate cap determinations within 5 months after the cap year ends and pay back any overpayments at that time.  The rule also addresses other areas.  We will provide additional information in future email alerts.
